From CityU’s Alumni Director
Had enough of the “new year, new you” headlines all over the media and in fitness advertisements? I like to think of this time of year as “another chance to enhance.”
Let me explain.
If you’re like me, you generally like who you are. I find that I’m drawn to individuals who like themselves as well. It’s very affirming to be around such people.
Media hype insinuates that we need to change in order to like ourselves. That doesn’t work for me because it focuses on the negative.
I keep long-term goals in writing and make sure to look at them often. Try it sometime. I’ll make tweaks or enhancements to my list but no major shakeups. Many of us don’t have the fortitude to go through an overhaul each year and it’s not necessary.
A dear friend once shared with me, “Who you are is enough.” He’s right.
Be kind to yourself and focus on what you do well. Build on your talents and strengths.
Enhance what you’d like and embrace the rest.
All the best,

Eileen Ryan-Rojas
Director of Alumni and Development
